Instituto Internacional Octavio Paz (IIOP) has become the first lakeside learning institution to qualify for the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School network, with authorization to offer the IB Diploma Programme for the next term within its bilingual or Spanish-only high school level curricula.
The Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and balanced study program for students ages 16 to 19. It is designed to help them develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills that are needed to excel as they head into university and beyond to adult life challenges in a rapidly globalizing world.
“We wanted to offer our students a more holistic education that instills the skills, knowledge and outlook to succeed in the 21st century” says IIOP Education Director Rogelio Sanchez. “At the same time we give our teachers the opportunity to be part of an international network of experts leading in the field of education. We are delighted to be the second IB World School in Jalisco and look forward to reaping the program’s many benefits.“
In addition to academic course work, the DP core incorporates independent research and extended essay project on a selected subject, a theory of knowledge course to foment critical thinking, and extracurricular activities that channel creativity, action and service.
