Casa Nostra moves into tailor-made digs

After more than 20 years as a pillar in the local assisted living facility industry, Casa Nostra Nursing Home is the first of the existing homes to move into brand new buildings designed specifically for the care of the aging.

In keeping with other, more recent assisted living operations, expat and Casa Nostra founder Beverly Ward III moved his first patients into an existing sprawling home.

Ward had gained a lifetime of home nursing experience during his work life in the United States and wanted an appropriate place for his own parents to live comfortably and safely as they aged.

The first dwelling in the tiny settlement of San Pablo, east of San Juan Cosalá, was succeeded by a much larger location in a park-like setting in Chapala, followed by the most recent operation in lower Riberas del Pilar.

In the ensuing years, with the able assistance of Delia Villanueva, Ward found successively more suitable housing for the elderly entrusted to his care. When Ward himself become one of the residents, Villanueva took on the management of Casa Nostra.

Although she followed Ward’s lead for many years, it was Villanueva’s insight and skills that saw the cheerful new buildings and lovely gardens come to fruition in upper Riberas. In addition to bright and spacious resident rooms, the new facility includes up-to-date amenities, including an efficient kitchen, well-equipped gym and physical therapy space.

Casa Nostra Nursing Home is at Sta. Margarita 8 (north of the Carretera at Mom’s Deli). Call (376) 765-3824 for an appointment to visit the facility, or visit the website Lacasanostra.com.
