Offbeat merriment booked next weekend

Lakesiders looking for some extreme modes of entertainment will have two special events to choose from on Sunday, December 7.
Mud bogging mayhem

Motorheads will enjoy a full day of adrenaline-pumped down and dirty action when the Festival del Lodo makes its fall comeback to Lake Chapala’s mucky shoreline.

The mud fest site will be fixed up with a delineated racing track for ATVs, UTVs, motor-cross bikes and 4x4 vehicles and plenty of open space for free-wheeling mud bogging along the waterfront. The event will also showcase dealership displays of new off-track vehicles, with bikini-clad models, food, drinks and DJ music to enhance the party atmosphere.

The venue is located just off the Chapala-Mezcala highway a short distance beyond the intersection of Avenida González Gallo and Pepe Guizar. Gates open at 11 a.m., advertised to continue rolling “until your body’s exhausted or your vehicle falls apart.” The price of admission is 70 pesos per person.

Bulldogs, bikinis, low-riders

For a happening that’s really out of the mold, check out the odd mix of activities at the Pitbulls-N-Bully’s Fun Show, booked for Chapala’s Parque La Cristianía, starting at noon.

The event revolves around a dog show for pit bulls and bulldogs, with competition in conformation and sporting trials in jumping, pulling and trapping.

Added attractions will include an exhibition of low-riders and other types of customized cars, a bikini modeling contest and DJ and open-mike musical entertainment.

Advanced tickets going for 40 pesos per person are available at Supermercado El Torito, Cinemas del Lago and Zona Fitness Gym. Expect to pay a bit more at the door.
