Absent natives relish homecoming

Ajijic’s Fiestas de San Andrés ended with customary festive fanfare bankrolled by the town’s Hijos Ausentes, the native sons, daughters and descendents who reside abroad or in far off places.

Around 100 Ajijitecos blew in from different parts of the United States to revive family ties while reveling in the celebration. Among them was Father Sergio Ramos Vazquez, vicar of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Huntington Beach, California, who is pictured left receiving the offering of gifts while officiating at a November 30 mass.

Financial records posted outside the church show that Hijos Ausentes settled in seven different states scraped together well over 15,000 dollars from fundraising events and personal donations to cover expenses for the fiesta finale blowout.
