Chapala pushes ahead with stalled animal protection code

Chapala’s Ecology Advisory Council this week put its stamp of approval on a draft of the Municipal Animal Protection Code, a regulatory initiative that has been in the works for the past three years.

The document will now be forwarded to the cabildo (city council) for review and a vote for enactment.

Once passed, the regulations will be published in the municipal gazette for implementation, and will likely take effect early next year.

The hurried push to finally get the initiative done appears to have been prompted by the recent highly publicized killing of a pit bull stemming from a dispute between Chapala neighbors.
