A local resident recently started up an online petition to increase the number of Ajijic parking spaces designated for the handicapped, with more than 800 signatures reportedly collected to date.
The proposal suggests reducing spots reserved for taxis to double handicapped spaces at the west side of the plaza, adding another outside the BBVA bank and three more, plus a new cab stand, at the Malecón. It also calls for the installation of appropriate signage and strict vigilance to prevent misuse of exclusive parking zones.
The petition author is also leading an effort to create a mechanism for obtaining authorized handicapped auto stickers with a doctor’s prescription.
