Lake Chapala gains 13 centimeters

Lake Chapala rose by 13 centimeters during the first month of the 2020 rainy season.  As of July 22, the lake was at 61 percent of full capacity, with a volume of 4.8 billion cubic meters, according to  Jalisco Water Commission (CEA) calculations.

The lake dropped 1.23 meters over the 2019-2020 dry season and is currently standing about 80 centimeters shy of its level registered one year ago, the CEA said.

The lake’s typical summer rise began this year on June 22. The increase flattened out over the course of the past week as the Canicula, or so-called “Dog Days,” kicked in with an anticipated month-long period of hotter, drier midsummer weather.
