The Chapala City Council has put its stamp of approval on a new set of regulations to simplify and speed up the issuance of building permits for private homes.
The proposal drawn up by Gilberto Chaires Muñoz, recently appointed to head the Urban Planning Department, is specifically designed to streamline bureaucratic procedures for obtaining permits for the construction of single homes, including those hand-built by the property owners.
Applicants who submit all the requisite documentation early on a working day may be able to complete the process before closing time or within no more than 24 hours, Chaires says. He stresses that the new rules do not apply to facilitating the development of residential subdivisions or condominiums, which are subject to more complex requirements.
