Chapala sets stiff fines for invading ciclovía

Motorists who are caught parking their vehicles in Chapala’s ciclovía (cycling path) will be subject to steep fines taking effect as of January 2021.

Based on federal standards, the top monetary penalty for invading the ciclovía will run to 4,100 pesos or the standing equivalent to 50 measurement units (UMA) tied into the minimum wage.  Under Chapala’s traffic regulations the current fine for that parking violation costs just 347 pesos.

The sanctions were approved Tuesday, August 18, by the municipal Treasury and Budget Commission as part of the proposed Ley de Ingresos.
