Covid deaths creep upwards

The Covid-19 death toll in the Lake Chapala region has gradually crept up since the start of August.

The sixth fatality out of 144 confirmed cases in Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos corresponds to a 55-year-old male patient who succumbed on August 8.

A Chapala man, 65, died on August 11, becoming the municipality’s fifth victim. At press time the number of confirmed cases stands at 71.

Entering the statistics for Jocotepec on August 15 was a female patient, 40, the seventh death among 83 cases recorded there.

The latest death was a woman from Poncitilán, 73, reported on August 18, bringing the tally to six fatalities and a total of 102 cases in that municipality.

The cited figures above reflect official statistics registered by Jalisco’s Health Department (https://ssj.jalisco.gob.mx), which generally are more up to date and accurate compared to data reported by federal health authorities on their website (https://coronavirus.gob.mx). However, a true count of persons who have become infected or died from the virus in Jalisco and elsewhere in the nation remains unknown.
