Good things are bound to happen when community leaders put their heads together for a common cause.
And that is what appears to be occurring in response to the proposal for developing a first-rate athletics complex put forward by Chapala’s Los Guepardos runners club.
Club founder Ernesto “Tito” López González presented the project to a group of municipal authorities, local businessmen, and NGO associations at a meeting held Monday, December 14, at Parque de la Cristianía. The concept is to build a regulation-size Tartan Track suitable for holding elite track and field competitions, to be located at the Chapala campus of the Mario Molina Technological Institute (ITMM).
“I don’t have money, but I have the will to knock on the doors of people who do,” López said. “I know there is a foreign community, businesses and others who will want to contribute because this project will be for our young people. It doesn’t matter if we have to appeal to a thousand people, because we are going get it done.”
