Tree surgery on Ajijic highway

The Chapala Ecology Department this week launched an initiative to salvage dozens of overgrown and diseased trees lining the highway from the east end of Ajijic through La Floresta.

The tree surgery program started early Tuesday, January 19, when the section of highway between Aldama and Revolución was closed to traffic to allow crews from the Parks and Gardens, Public Lighting and General Service departments to safely get to work.

Vehicles were temporarily detoured to the lateral service roads. They will be rerouted similarly when the project is resumed on Thursday, January 28, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the next stretch eastward into La Floresta.

According to Ecology Director José Jaime Ibañez, most of the trees have become unhealthy due to years of neglect and improper pruning practices.
