A large work crew laid down the new street surface at the end of the Ajijic’s Calle Morelos this week. It consists of two sections of stone and concrete tire tracks set between parallel lines of uncemented adoquín pavers, with space left on either extreme to expand the width of adjacent sidewalks.
With the entire block turned into a no parking zone, the finished project will be more pedestrian-friendly, and presumably resistant to damage caused by gushing rainy season runoff and vehicle traffic.
Predictably, a number of native villagers are appalled by a design that does not match traditional cobblestone empedrados elsewhere in town, taking to social media to voice harsh criticism of the local government for not taking public opinion into account.
