Time running out to prep for summer rains

The substantial downpour that swept through the Chapala area on the night of Friday, May 19 served as a wake-up call for local householders who have only a few weeks left to prepare for the 2023 rainy season. The temporal de lluvias typically takes hold at lakeside about half way into June.

pg16aLast weekend’s unusual overnight storm caused power failures in various parts of the municipality. Damage to power lines commonly increase as weakened trees and branches are knocked down during the earliest summer storms. Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) work crews may take several hours or more than one day to fully restore service.

Report power failures to the CFE hot line by dialing 071 from a cell phone or land line. The operator will request the número de servicio appearing on the caller’s bill and perhaps the street address, neighborhood and municipality where the lights are out, so keep that information in a handy spot in case of emergency.  An alternative is to register in advance as a CFE-Contigo user at app.cfe.mx. To report power failures you will need to provide the account’s service number, your email address and whether the power is totally out or sporadic.
