A bronze plaque fixed next to the entrance the San Francisco Church bears the following legend: “
The sons of Chapala dedicate this monument of eternal gratitude to the very Holy Virgin of Zapopan on the occasion of the visits of her thaumaturgic image to this town in 1955 and 1958 and for the miraculous and admirable recuperation of the lake in these years, precisely when Jalisco faced an uncertain future and its industry was threatened with ruin.”
The inscription recalls phenomena that only the oldest generation of Ribera inhabitants ever witnessed, that is until it was repeated in 2003.
