Buckle up for San Andrés fiestas

Anyone with any notion of finding peace and quiet in Ajijic over the next two weeks would be wise to consider temporarily getting out of Dodge.

Following the Tuesday, November 21 blast-off of festivities honoring spiritual patron Saint Andrew the Apostle, expect noise and chaos to rule as townspeople remain in full-tilt party mode until the end of the month.

The boisterous fiestas patronales encompass a full agenda of traditional religious and secular activities centered at the San Andrés parish church, the village plaza and the local bullring. The celebration will be punctuated around the clock by barrages of booming cohetes (sky rockets), regular intervals of pealing church bells, and nightly high-decibel dance concerts, all in a rip-roaring ambiance fueled by heavy consumption of liquid spirits.
