Barrio de Quilmes, the Argentine steakhouse attached to the Ajijic pier, has been officially cleared of polluting Lake Chapala with the release of the findings of a September inspection carried out by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA).
PROFEPA personnel verified that the wastewater generated by the restaurant is fed into the town’s sewage system via a single PVC pipe that is connected to smaller pipes located and clearly visible underneath the structure.
A copy of the inspection report PFPA/21.2/2C.27.1/034-23 was provided to this newspaper by Héctor Fabio Rizzo Jasso, the Guadalajara businessman who holds a National Water Commission concession to the federal zone where the pier, restaurant and surrounding beach area are situated.
