Pier restaurant gets clean bill of health

Barrio de Quilmes, the Argentine steakhouse attached to the Ajijic pier, has been officially cleared of polluting Lake Chapala with the release of the findings of a September inspection carried out by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA).

pg13bPROFEPA personnel verified that the wastewater generated by the restaurant is fed into the town’s sewage system via a single PVC pipe that is connected to smaller pipes located and clearly visible underneath the structure.

A copy of the inspection report PFPA/21.2/2C.27.1/034-23 was provided to this newspaper by Héctor Fabio Rizzo Jasso, the Guadalajara businessman who holds a National Water Commission concession to the federal zone where the pier, restaurant and surrounding beach area are situated.
