Cops impound irregular motorbikes

Jalisco traffic police rounded up and impounded 62 motorcycles circulating in the municipality of Chapala with some kind of legal anomaly on Saturday, December 16.

pg13cMotorcycles were confiscated from drivers who were unable to produce valid registration and insurance documents or lacked license tags.

Another 63 were ticketed for not wearing protective helmets, speeding or reckless driving. Riding with children or more than two persons aboard is likewise prohibited under Jalisco traffic regulations.

The latest local crackdown on motorcycle violations was carried out simultaneously at the junction of Chapala-Jocotepec highway and the Libramiento bypass, the north end of Chapala’s Avenida Madero, and at the intersection of Avenida Pepe Guizar and the road to Mezcala.

The principal aims of the operation were to encourage compliance with the law and prevent a spike in accidents over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
