Chapala opens playground for pups

Chapala’s waterfront Malecón, the town’s hub for tourism and social interaction, has a new space specially designed for residents and visitors to enjoy leisure time with their pooches.

pg1cThe Rinconcito Canino (Canine Corner) located along the eastern leg of the boardwalk opened to the public on Tuesday, February 27. It is a large open space surfaced with synthetic turf surrounded by fencing where dogs are free to romp on or off leash under the supervision of their human companions.

Rules for proper use of the playground for pups are posted in Spanish and English. Dog owners are required to keep an eye on their pets at all times, and provide their own water, food and treats as needed. They must immediately leave the premises in the event of aggressive behavior occurring between the animals. And, obviously, they must collect and dispose of feces dropped on the ground.

Dogs wearing spiked collars, showing symptoms of illness and females in heat are not allowed inside the area. Vendors offering pet products or live puppies or dogs for sale are also banned. Local authorities are not responsible for the personal belongings of visitors that are forgotten, lost and stolen in the doggy park.
