The June 5, 2009 fire at the ABC Kindergarten in Hermosillo, Sonora killed 49 children and severely injured many more. A Federal judge has ruled that nine state and city functionaries serve jail time for their negligence.
The names of the former officials of the Secretria de Hacienda de Sonora and Heromosillo Protecion Civil were not given as they had yet to be arrested and officials did not want to tip them off, according to the lawyer representing 70 affected children.
The lawyer said the Federal Attorney General’s office might order the arrest of more than 60 more people in the next week. Many of the children were exposed to toxic fumes from chemicals stored at the facility.
