New bill, coin commemorate historic date

The nation’s Central Bank, the Banco de Mexico, has launched a new 20-peso coin and 100-peso bill to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Mexican Constitution.

The bill shows Venustiaano Carranza and Luis Manuel Rojas at the Constitutional Congress held in Queretero on February 5, 1917, when a new Constitution was approved amid the turmoil of the Mexican Revolution. Carranza would become president on May 1 of that year and serve for three years as the Revolution wound down and stability was restored.

The 20-peso coin shows Carranza with other members of the Congress.  The new bills and coins will go into general circulation, Banco de Mexico sources say.
