Mayan Train set to open December 15

The first stage of the Mayan Tourist Train route, approximately 470 kilometers running from Campeche to Cancun, will begin operations on December 15, Óscar David Lozano Águila, the director general of the service, announced this week.

for no. 5Lozano Águila said a second stage of the 1,550-kilometer tourist train line circling the Yucatan peninsula running from Canun to Palenque in Chiapas, would most likely be ready by December 31.

The train line, one of the most expensive infrastructure projects of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s administration, is split into seven sections (tramos), of which five are expected to be up and running by the end of 2023.

Lozano Águila said tickets for the route would go on sale as of December 1 on the official Tren Maya website,  trenmayaa.com.  However, as of press time, Thursday, November 30, the Tren Maya website, trenmayaa.com, had no information about ticket purchases, costs or train timetables.
