EU visa-waiver requirement postponed for another 18 months

The introduction of the European Union’s new travel authorization system (ETIAS) has been delayed until 2025.

Scheduled to go online on January 1, 2024, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) for citizens from visa-exempt nations has been pushed back to mid-2025 because its entry/exit database is not ready.

Travelers to the EU from visa-exempt nations, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Mexico, will need to register online at a cost of seven Euros.  The system will work much in the same way as the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for visitors to the United States from visa-waver nations.

In most cases, authorization will granted within a few minutes and will be good for three years, or until the user’s passport expires.
