Finally, Mexico to get Michelin-star restaurants

With the recent launch of the Michelin Guide in Mexico, early 2024 should see the release of an initial list of Michelin Star restaurants in this country.

Up until now, the Michelin rating system has focused mainly on Europe, Asia and the United States.  Nevertheless, increasing international attention on Mexican cuisine has persuaded Michelin to expand its reach and start evaluating restaurants in this country.

“It is a source of pride that Mexico’s culinary excellence not only captivates the world but is also recognized internationally through this prestigious guide,” said Daniela Mijares, president of the Mexican Restaurant Chamber (CANIRAC).

Unfortunately for Guadalajara, the Michelin inspection team is focusing on “discovering the hidden gems of the culinary landscape” in “Mexico City, Oaxaca, Baja California, Los Cabos and Nuevo León,” according to a Michelin company press release.
