Lynne Benoit retires as Canadian consular agent

Lynne Benoit, the Canadian Consular Agent in the Puerto Vallarta/Riviera Nayarit area for the past 20 years, has stepped down from her position as of January 1.

Benoit arrived in Puerto Vallarta in 1986 and began work as the Canadian honorary consul in 1993.

In a statement to the local media, Benoit said she never had time to be bored and that “being able to help so many Canadians and their families has been a privilege.”

Noting that she could “ write a book on the many different, sad, funny, and sometimes rare consular cases that I have seen,” Benoit thanked the many locals who had supported her in charity endeavors, including several “Terry Fox Runs.”

Benoit, whose daughter Marianick was born in Puerto Vallarta, says she will be moving back to Canada in June.

As yet, there is no word on a replacement for Benoit.
