Whatever you can do we can do better! That could be the motto of groups seeking legislative reforms to allow gay couples in Jalisco to marry and adopt children.
A collective of organizations, under the label Cohesión de Diversidades para la Sustentabilidad (CODISE), presented state legislators with a file this week containing 27,719 signatures in favor of changing the laws – sufficient to trigger a congressional debate.
The move to collect the signatures was a response to a similar initiative by Catholic-based organizations that garnered 20,000 signatures opposing same-sex marriage and adoptions.
Organizers hope to draw thousands of supporters to a march on Saturday, August 22 that is scheduled to leave from the intersection of Chapultepec and Hidalgo at 4 p.m. and finish in the Guadalajara center.
