Tequila Express Mark II ready to roll

Tequila Herradura is filling the void left by the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce and will offer weekend train excursions to its ancient distillery in Amatitan following the Easter (Semana Santa) break.

The “Tequila Herradura Express” will be operated in conjunction  with Ferromex, Mexico’s largest private rail consortium.

The Chamber of Commerce recently ended its relationship with Ferromex and revamped its two-decade-old “Tequila Express” excursion into a weekend bus trip to the Sauza plant in Tequila.

The Tequila Herradura Express will transport passengers from the Guadalajara train hub to the station in Amititan (25 miles from the city), where a bus will take them the short ride to the 150-year-oldHacienda San José del Refugio distillery.  Here, they will be given a tour of the facilities to see both the ancient and modern methods of distilling Mexico’s emblematic beverage.  They will be served a meal of traditional Mexican food, accompanied by live music and traditional dance.  Complimentary drinks (including tequila, of course) will be served on both the outward and return train journeys.

The Tequila Herradura Express will have three-tier pricing structure. Vagón Premium is the basic family option for 1,900 pesos; Vagón Club is for adults only, and includes music, tv screens and entertainment for 2,100 pesos; and Vagón Primera Clase is the luxury option, with lounge chairs and personalized service.

The excursions are expected to begin on Saturday, April 29, and will run every weekend, as well as on public holidays. See www.tequilaherraduraexpress.mx for more details.

The new attraction will compete directly with the Tequila Express and the  Jose Cuervo Express, which offers a luxury day-trip by train to its installations in Tequila.  See tequilaexpress.mx and josecuervoexpress.com for more details.
