Tlajomulco to collect separated waste

The metro-area municipality of Tlajomulco has launched a new garbage collection program, putting down an environmental marker ahead of wealthier neighbors Guadalajara and Zapopan, both of which still dump all kinds of waste into the same trucks.

The program will see trucks pick up separated garbage – organic and inorganic – on different days of the week.

The first stage of the program will be limited to homes in the Lopez Mateos corridor, between El Palomar and Lomas de Santa Anita.

Then, three-day garbage collection schedules will remain the same for residents. Organic material will be collected on Mondays and Fridays, and inorganic waste on Wednesdays, for those on that particular weekly schedule. Tuesdays and Saturdays will be for organic garbage collection and Thursdays for inorganic, for residents on the other weekly schedule.

Subdivisions that have their own private garbage collection service, such as La Rioja, Palomar, Club de Golf Santa Anita and Nueva Galicia, will also participate in the new program.
