The entire municipal police force of the town of San Juan de los Lagos, numbering 160 in total, has been suspended and sent to Jalisco Police Academy for reevaluation.
Their duties are being carried out by officers from the State Police Force and the federal National Guard. Jalisco’s Consejo Estatal de Seguridad (Security Council) made the decision and informed the town’s mayor after receiving “intelligence” that the municipal force had been “infiltrated” by criminal organizations, a government press release said.
State authorities have made similar moves in the past – including in Tonala – in order to prevent local forces from being compromised.
