State health authorities issue dengue alert

While most people are fixated on the growing spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, health authorities are starting to warn the public to begin precautions to prevent infection of dengue fever, as well as other common diseases transmitted to humans by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, such as chikungunya and zika.

Although outbreaks of these illnesses normally coincide with the summer rainy season, Jalisco’s Health Department (SSJ) is suggesting that citizens take advantage of the current Covid-19 lockdown to get a head start on home clean-up and repair projects.

Measures to prevent harmful mosquitoes from breeding and biting include covering or turning over any containers that allow stagnant water to collect, getting  rid of discarded tires and other junk, and installing screens and nets to keep insects from getting inside.
