Governor upset at ‘red’ traffic light grade, despite his threat to roll back reopenings

Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro hit out at federal health authorities after this state was placed on “maximum alert” in the Covid-19 traffic light system that grades states as green, yellow, orange and red depending on their level of infection risk.

for 7Jalisco has previously been classified in the orange (mid-risk) level, which permits nonessential economic activities and the reopening of public spaces. However, on Friday, July 17, Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez Gatell announced that after evaluating hospital occupation trends, virus positivity and suspected cases, Jalisco had moved in to the highest risk (red) category for the week of July 20-26.

On July 16, Jalisco registered its highest number of Covid-19 infections and deaths in one day – 755 and 42.

The trend has maintained a similar rhythm throughout this week: July 17 (confirmed cases/deaths): 508/30; July 18: 490/39; July 19: 233/17; July 20: 438/19; July 21: 694/37; July 22: 615/21.
