Hospital admissions for Covid-19 surging in Jalisco

The combination of unvaccinated people, a relaxation of preventive measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing, plus the spread of the contagious Delta variant have caused Covid-19 cases to climb in Jalisco, health experts say.

pg5bActive Covid-19 cases (those registered within the past 14 days) were around 8,000 this week, close to the pandemic’s high of 10,000 in January.

As of Wednesday, July 28, 910 people were hospitalized for Covid-19 in the state, the Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) confirmed.

The coastal regions of Jalisco showed the highest hospitalization rates in the state, with between 70 and 85 percent of beds designated for Covid-19 patients occupied.

Meanwhile, bed occupancy in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara is running at 55 percent.
