More than 280 separate screenings take place at 11 venues in the metropolitan area, including those entered in nine competitive “sections,” with nearly all of them open for viewing to the public.

Prizes will be given to films competing for the Mezcal Award for Mexican films (six fiction films and five documentaries this year), Ibero-American Feature, Ibero-American Documentary, Animated Feature, Animated Short Film, Hecho en Jalisco (Made in Jalisco) and  the Maguey Prize for films promoting the unique challenges that accompany sexual diversity.

Special homages will paid to Mexican film and TV actress Arcelia Ramirez (“Like Water for Chocolate,” “La mujer de Benjamín,” “Sexo, amor y otras perversiones”) and Italian editor Roberto Perpignani, who worked with Bernardo Bertolucci and won several awards for his editing on the 1995 hit “Il Postino.”  Italy is this year’s invited country, and will be showing around a dozen films at different venues.

A special tribute will also be paid to Raul Padilla, the founder and former president of the festival who died earlier this year.
