Lakeside celebrates Jalisco’s bicentennial in style

Festivities marking the 200th anniversary of Jalisco statehood are scheduled for Friday, June 16 in Chapala, Ajijic and Jocotepec.

pg6bRegular government activities (except for emergency services) will be suspended for the day, while local authorities participate in civic ceremonies planned for the occasion.

Chapala will host a Ballet Folclórico festival with five dance troupes and live mariachi music performing at the Fuente de Pescadores at the south end of Avenida Madero, starting at 7 p.m. A tequila expo will be going on from noon at the Malecón.

Ajijic’s celebration will be centered at the village plaza from 6 p.m. Live entertainment gets underway at 7 p.m., featuring a performance of the Circo Dragón spectacle “Xalisco, un Viaje de Libertad” at 8:20 p.m.

Jocotepec’s bicentennial program will take place at the central plaza, 6 to 10 p.m. The Ballet Folclórico Fandango Jalisciense will appear at 7:15 p.m., accompanied by Mariachi Tradicional Los Hijos del Son. Mariachi Real Axixic and guest vocalist Juan José Ramírez Campos follow at 8:30 p.m.

Glittery fireworks will light up the sky to cap off the celebrations in all three locations.
