Jalisco to issue digital driving licenses

A digital version of a Jalisco driver’s license that can be download on a smartphone will become available on August 15, the state Department of Transportation (Setrans) announced this week.

pg1bThe digital licenses will have the same official validity as a physical license, but not replace them. They can be shown to transit officers when requested at a traffic stop in lieu of the official plastic card.

Jalisco will be the first state in Mexico to launch digital licenses using secure Advanced Electronic Signature technology.

The digital licenses will be restricted to drivers of private vehicles, and not available to public transport and taxi drivers, who will need to always carry their physical licenses with them.

The licenses can be obtained via the Jalisco Digital License app, that can be downloaded free of charge on both iOS and Android operating systems.
