Land mine self detonates in Tlajomulco

An explosive device self detonated this week in the same area of Tlajomulco where six people died in an ambush on a police convoy on July 11.

No one was injured in the July 31 explosion, which left a small crater beside an unpaved road in a semi-populated zone of the municipality.

State authorities believe the land-mine type device was buried along with others that were detonated in last month’s attack that killed four police officers and two civilians, and injured 14 others.  It must have failed to go off, they deducted, and detonated on its own accord this week, fortunately when no one was nearby. One official speculated that heavy rains may have been the factor behind the self detonation. A wider swath of the zone was cordoned as officers searched for more possible devices.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the bombing attack, the state prosecutors’ office said.
