New Jalisco traffic regulations ushered in

Nine and a half months after the state legislature approved revisions to Jalisco’s Mobility, Road Safety and Transportation Law, the Jalisco government published the reform’s respective regulatory code, which took effect on August 5.

Some of the principal facets of the new law and its regulations are:

- Everyone aged over 75 either applying for or renewing a Jalisco driver’s license must present a medical certificate issued by a public health institution confirming they have the physical and mental capacity to be at the wheel of a motor vehicle.

- All vehicles driven in Jalisco must have minimum third-party insurance with coverage of 414,000 pesos or higher for damages, and three million pesos in the case of death.

- Drivers of public transport units must take an annual competence course that will also include training on topics such as gender awareness and perspective, substantive equality, sexual violence and street harassment. Those who pass the course will be able to place a badge on their units.
