Jalisco brushes off school textbook quarrel, implements its own strategy

Jalisco will go ahead with its 2023/24 public school curriculum without the free textbooks issued by the federal government.

pg7bThe new school year starts on August 28, but the textbooks are languishing inside a warehouse and will remain there until litigation about their suitability is resolved, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro said this week.

Instead of the books, teachers in Jalisco will use the online resources and digital materials provided by the supplemental Recrea Educar para la Vida educational project started by the state government in 2019.

“With or without free textbooks, Jalisco has a solid educational project that is aligned with the national curriculum,” he said.

Recrea Digital has downloadable materials and activities designed to encourage and develop the creativity of students, in addition to thematic videos and other resources.
