Police bust lab making pirate medicines

Federal authorities have dismantled a clandestine laboratory in a rural area of Jocotepec filled with clues that the property was used for the production of counterfeit over-the-counter medications.

According to a preliminary report, a squad assigned to Jalisco’s State Prosecutor’s Office discovered boxes and rolls of meds scattered around the outside of the property while scouting an unpaved road leading to a ranch called La Herradura in the municipality of Jocotepec.

After obtaining a search warrant, agents from the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) and experts from the Criminal Investigation Agency went over the property with a fine-tooth comb.

They seized 68 cardboard boxes, 11 cylindrical canisters and four containers holding blister packs of tablets labeled with brand names such as metformin, tempra, flanax, buscapina, and dolo-neurobion forte. The officers also confiscated plastic bags containing chemicals such as calcium carbonate, acetisalicylic acid, anastrozole arimidex, as well as 12 industrial machines consisting of hydraulic presses, packaging machines, mixers and assemblers.
