A robot dog owned by the Zapopan police force was used this week during the seizure of a suitcase that turned out to contain drugs.
The suitcase had been abandoned outside a bus station in San Juan de Ocotán. Police forces around the world are adding robot dogs to their armory for fighting crime.
Few are actually patrolling the streets as yet, but are mostly being deployed in specific instances where the danger for humans is high, much like bomb-squad robots. Zapopan authorities have not said how much their robot dog cost, but some of the more advanced models can cost as much as $US300,000.
