Jalisco targets vulnerable groups in Covid vaccine plan

Jalisco will be the first state in the country to operate its own Covid-19 vaccination program, Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez announced last week.

pg1bThe state will purchase 50,000 Moderna Spikevax doses to be administered free of charge to the most vulnerable populations and priority groups, which include older adults, pregnant women, people living with comorbidities and health-care personnel.

On Wednesday, the Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) announced that it would activate its vaccination registration platform (gobjal.mx/VacunacionJalisco) at noon on Friday, January 12.  Everyone seeking a vaccine must register on this site.

The first stage of the campaign will begin on January 17, and run through March.  Older persons residing at assisted living homes and children and adolescents living in shelters will be the first ones eligible for the Moderna shots, the SSJ says. Teams will be dispatched to these locations to administer the vaccines.
