Opposition politicians say the emergence of a video on social media showing criminal gangs openly distributing toys to children on Three Kings Day in the town of Mazamitla is an indication of the impunity these nefarious groups enjoy in Jalisco.
The video, shared widely on Facebook and X, shows at least four cars, with horns honking and daubed with the initials of Mexico’s most fearsome criminal organization, cruising the streets of the popular tourist town. The vehicles are adorned with white balloons and children can even be seen sitting and waving on the roofs of some of the cars. From the sidewalk, children and adults watch the procession of cars go by, with many bystanders recording videos on their phones.
