Viva Catarsis Trio concert not to be missed

Ajijic native, violinist Diego Rojas Miramontes, will take the stage of the Auditorio de la Ribera del Lago with a Guadalajara pianist and a cellist from Veracruz as the Cataris Piano Trio is presents a  concert Thursday, February 5 at 7 p.m. The musicians received rave reviews for their Viva concert last year. 


Making friends with death

Certified End-of-Life Care Practitioner Loretta Downs will coordinate a four-session Making Friends with Death workshop sponsored by the Heart of Awareness Buddhist Community. Downs has been a companion to the dying for 30 years, and is founder of Chrysalis End-of-Life Inspirations. She holds a masters degree in Gerontology, is also a certified senior advisor and past-president of the Chicago End-of-Life Care Coalition.

Kicking it up at bomberos tourney

Firefighters from Chapala, Jocotepec, San Nicolás de Ibarra and San Juan Cosalá will be looking for glory on the grassy pitch of Chapala’s main soccer field in the day-long Torneo de Fútbol set for Saturday, January 24, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The competition schedule calls for preliminary games starting at 10 and Noon, with the championship match to capture the winner’s trophy following at 2 p.m. 

Food truck fest booked at Tobolandia

Mouth-watering gourmet ice cream dished out in rolls is the specialty of Le Mime, one of more than a dozen food truck enterprises to be showcased at the Verbena FoodFest, coming to the Tobolandia parking lot on Saturday, January 24, Noon to 9 a.m. The event will also feature stands offering organic foods, award-winning Mexican wines, artisanal beer, crafts, and souvenirs, along with rock and roll tunes performed by the Super Clásicos band, special areas for kids and pets and an after-dark Flyaway Skylights globo display. General admission is set at 35 pesos, 25 pesos for students and free for children under age eight.    

Ajijic’s San Sebastian Blowout

Neighbors of upper Ajijic will be in the grip of lively festivities all day Tuesday, January 20 as the barrio pays tribute to patron San Sebastián. The fiesta fever peaks from late afternoon when the visiting image of  the saint is marched back to home at the Capilla del Rosario and throngs of revelers regroup at the starting point for a unbridled street party.
