Mexico’s Supreme Court has struck down local government ordinances in several Jalisco municipalities that restrict children from partaking in soccer and other street games in their neighborhoods—traditions as old as the invention of urban life in Mexico.

A pet-friendly race to support the Mexican Red Cross will be held simultaneously in 32 cities—including Guadalajara—on Sunday, September 10. 

The relatives of missing persons received some TLC from the Catholic Church’s most senior figure in these parts, when Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega, the archbishop of Guadalajara, presided at a special service dedicated to the disappeared on Sunday, August 27 at the imperious but unfinished Santuario de los Mártires in Cerro del Tesoro neighborhood.

Even as attitudes toward bullfighting (la fiesta brava) change in Mexico, Guadalajara continues to give a green light to this centuries-old tradition.
