Heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon brought many parts of the Guadalajara metropolitan area to a standstill.

Three metro area agencies are working to clear tree limbs from wires, clean street drains, fill potholes and keep trash off the streets as the rainy season kicked into gear this week with the first Pacific storm of the season, Amanda.

The 2014 Pacific hurricane season officially started on May 15 and will end on November 30.  The season has almost gotten off to an early start, with a cluster of thunderstorms festering off the coast this month.

Just two weeks into the rainy season, Lake Chapala has already gained substantial ground and continues rising at a steady rate.
