Altars of Sorrow
Head to San Antonio Tlayacapan on Friday, March 27, 6 p.m. to join a guided tour of the residents’ candle-lit Altares de Nuestra Madre Dolorosa, where you’ll be offered different flavors of aguas frescas at each home, which represent the tears shed by the Virgen Maria. This is a tradition revered and continued by San Antonio residents.
Equinox
Saturday, March 21, 8 a.m., U Qux Café is sponsoring a Spring Equinox gathering at La Crucita Ecological Park at Nicolas Bravo in Ajijic. Bring an offering for the altar (flowers, copal, sage, cocoa, fruit, corn seeds) and food and drink to share.
Country-western fiesta
The Rainbow Alliance hosts Hoedown for Hope, a country-western fiesta for a cause, benefitting Under The Tree Girls’ Home for Teenagers in El Chante, Sunday, March 15, 6-9 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

Shriners Ribfest
The annual will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 3 and 4 at Villa Encantada, located at Hidalgo 312 in Chapala, near Parque La Milagrosa. This yearly event allows the Shriners to fund and facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with physical disabilities.
