Huichol pilgrimage
On September 23, a group of 36 Wixaritari (Huichols) made a pilgrimage to the Isla de los Alacranes on Lake Chapala to pay homage to Takutsi Nakawe, their ancestral grandmother, who, accompanied by her dog, is said to have landed on the island after the great floods. Legend has it that she was responsible for saving the corn and all the seeds in the New World.
Genealogy Forum
The next meeting of the Genealogy Forum will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 29 in the Lake Chapala Society Sala. Those attending will attempt to obtain additional information on pre-1850 ancestors in the United States via a webinar.
Red Cross Information Kit
As a result of the problems Cruz Roja EMTs experience when called to help an intensely ill patient, the organization has been promoting the use of their Emergency Medical Information Kits.
What About Pets?
Again this month members of the expat community graciously stepped up and helped find homes for several orphaned pets. It is so sad when a member of the community dies unexpectedly; it is sadder yet when their beloved pets are left alone until someone can be found to adopt them.
Toastmasters Club
The theme for the September meetings of the Lake Chapala Bilingual Toastmasters Club is “Continued Learning,” which speaks to the reopening of area schools and the many classes and activities area retirees attend.
Lakeside British Society
Andre Bellon, president of Bellon Insurance, will review the various medical insurance options available to retirees at Lake Chapala during the program time of the Saturday September 6, 1 p.m. meeting of the Lakeside British Society. Bellon’s company also writes insurance policies for homes and automobiles, but this presentation will focus on medical insurance.
Lakeside BLING
Lake Chapala’s International Business Group (BLING) will gather for the August Mixer from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 30 at the Market Café. For more information, contact group founder Shannon Conshue at the café, Carretera 24 in Ajijic.
