Revolution Day in Guadalajara

The large Revolution Day parade in Guadalajara takes place on Monday, November 17, running from the Agua Azul Park to La Normal Glorieta along 16 de Septiembre and Alcalde, starting 10 a.m.  Expect to see floats depicting revolutionary themes, sportsmen, women and children and demonstrations by emergency services.

Street vendors run riot after police raid turns sour

Street vendors and others angered at a police raid to confiscate pirated items on sale at stalls set up in their “patch” around the San Juan de Dios Market pelted officers with stones and set fire to vehicles in a disturbance that rocked the Guadalajara city center last Friday afternoon.  

Cemeteries brace for annual deluge

Authorities in the Guadalajara metro area are predicting that more than a million people will visit the grave sites of their relatives during traditional Day of the Dead observances on Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2.

Fabled city cemetery reopens in time for Day of the Dead

Guadalajara’s spookiest cemetery, the Museo Panteón de Belén, has opened to the public again having been closed for a year of restoration work. The inauguration took place on Wednesday evening as the public were invited to an advance preview of two new exhibits — an altar de muertos for the Day of the Dead, and a photography collection about Catholic rituals for dealing with dead bodies.
