City closes famous metro-area park

A deserted ticket office, padlocked gates and a protest banner is the forlorn scene outside the Parque Rehilete Alcalde, one of the city’s most traditional parks, that includes a small boating lake.

Guadalajara city hall has closed one of the city’s traditional parks because its private operators have incurred debts of 1.7 million pesos.

City center’s motorized cops

Cops try out their new tricycles.

At a cost of seven million pesos, police in Guadalajara have been equipped with 25 motorized tricycles for patrolling the historic city center and Avenida Chapultepec.

City remembers day when streets blew up

Crimson dye was poured into several metro area fountains Sunday, in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the April 22 sewer line explosions, including the memorial statue (above) in the Analco neighborhood of the city.

The water ran red in several fountains across Guadalajara on Sunday, to symbolize the blood of those lost in the infamous sewer line explosions 20 years ago to the day.
