Chapala goes big time for Dia de Muertos festival

By Dale Hoyt Palfrey

Chapala is hosting an extended Day of the Dead festival this year, with diverse activities spread out between October 26 and November 2.

The program will feature a variety of special events scheduled in conjunction with the municipal government of Paztcuaro, Michoacán, distinguished internationally for its Día de Muertos traditions.

El Lago de Chapala has experienced many fluctuations since Mexican government agencies began keeping records at the beginning of the 20th century. However, the extraordinary rise of Mexico’s largest natural lake during this year’s abundant rainy season is likely to stand out in its historical records.
